Here is the course outline:

1. Introduction to the Course and Literature Review

The class will review the course broadly before narrowing our focus to consider the first major writing assignment, the literature review.

2. Breaking Down the Parts of the Literature Review

The class will construct introduction and conclusion sections of their drafts.

3. Polishing the Literature Review

Students will conduct reviews of their colleague’s drafts and make final adjustments to their own literature reviews.

4. Adopting the Rhetorical Approach

The class will analyze a commercial rhetorically and compose rhetorical analysis body paragraphs.

5. Applying the Rhetorical Toolkit

Students will work together to analyze promotions through the rhetorical lens.

6. Finalizing the Rhetorical Analysis

Students will provide each other valuable feedback on their analyses and finalize their essay drafts.

7. Staging a Rebuttal

The class will review and analyze the rebuttal writing genre.

8. Identifying and Breaking Down Sources

Students will analyze key elements of rebuttal essay writing, identify sources suitable for this essay, and break down their key elements.

9. Constructing the Rebuttal

The class will outline the rebuttal essay and construct body paragraphs suitable for this genre of writing.

10. Drawing the Rebuttal to a Close

The class will respond to rough draft reviews, conduct examinations of peer work, and polish their final essay drafts.

11. Establishing a Research Foundation

Students will review the research essay genre, compose a research question, and begin compiling their research findings.

12. Reviewing the Literature Review Writing Genre

The class will grade college research essay examples and compose body paragraph for their essay drafts.

13. Concluding the Research Essay

The class will conduct examinations of peer work and polish their final essay drafts.

14. Final Items

Students will revise their lowest scoring of the first three essays from the class.
